Hell hath no fury like a lover scorned used to be about the worst imaginable threat possible when it comes to dumping a girlfriend. Unfortunately, it’s gotten worse. For military service members in the era of Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP), a lover scorned now just claims sexual assault lets the military justice system turn the service member’s life into a living hell.
That was a case for a young Specialist out of Fort Bragg when their relationship came to an end. It was scary how almost automatic this response has become in the aftermath of a failed relationship. Word has clearly gotten around that this is the most effective way to get payback and it is occurring with frightening frequency.
Thankfully, word has also gotten around about court martial lawyer Bilecki and his track record for fighting garbage charges and making prosecutors look silly for taking on these ridiculous cases. The Specialist knew exactly who to call and got Bilecki into the fight early. He was able to launch his own investigation before the prosecution got too hot and heavy for a court martial.
Attorney Bilecki was able to uncover overlooked witnesses and did a deep dive into the text exchanges between the accuser and the accused. In today’s day and age there are almost always detailed text conversations and though the prosecution would rather overlook them, they routinely exonerate the accused. When the alleged victim literally begging for sex via text messages, it just tells a different story.
In this case, it became clear based on the evidence that we uncovered that this was a campaign of vengeance. Had we not gotten involved early the military justice system would have destroyed this man’s life on behalf of a lover scorned. In this case and through our defensive strategies, we were able to watch the investigation closed outright with no further adverse actions taken against our client. It is a scary world right now for service members and if you find yourself facing such charges, you need to get ready for a fight because one is coming your way whether you want one or not.
