Quantico Teaches Marines To Improvise, Adapt, And Sometimes Violate the UCMJ If Needed

It’s undeniable that Marine officers trained at Quantico adhere to the strict standards of the UCMJ and uphold military discipline. However, the reality of combat often demands flexibility and innovation, qualities exemplified by Marines like Tony Stein. Stein’s remarkable ingenuity and adaptability were on full display during the intense fighting on Iwo Jima. Utilizing his background as a toolmaker, Stein repurposed a crashed bomber’s machine gun into a highly effective weapon known as the “Stinger,” which he wielded with exceptional skill and courage.

When Stein hit the shores of Iwo Jima armed with the Stinger, he embarked on a series of daring solo charges, taking out multiple enemy positions and inspiring his fellow Marines with his fearless actions. Despite sustaining wounds, Stein’s resolve never faltered, and he even returned to battle after receiving medical treatment. His unwavering dedication to his comrades and his ingenious use of improvised weaponry earned him the Medal of Honor and left an indelible mark on Marine Corps history. Stein’s story serves as a testament to the resourcefulness and valor of Marines under fire, highlighting their ability to adapt and overcome even the most challenging circumstances.

Combatting UCMJ Misuse

What Types of UCMJ Charges Does Bilicki Defend?

Sadly, we have yet to defend a Marine who misappropriated an aircraft weapon and used it to gift violence to the enemy. However, we have defended Marines for just about every charge under the sun and most importantly, we win far more often than we lose. In fact, we’d put our stats against any military court martial defense attorney in the industry. When we get into the courtroom, we have an aggressive style of defense that might be considered the legal equivalent of Stein’s Stinger. Below you’ll find the types of charges we defend and we are confident that you’ll see that even the most serious of charges fail to scare us off.

  1. Sex Offenses (UCMJ Article 120 & 134): Amidst the vibrant party scene, allegations of sex offenses can surge, affecting marines unjustly. True justice for victims doesn’t mean wrongfully ending innocent careers.
  2. Fraud and Larceny (UCMJ Article 121): We tackle cases from wrongful appropriation to BAH fraud, understanding that often, what’s missing isn’t stolen but misplaced, arguing that errors shouldn’t destroy careers.
  3. Assault and Violent Crime (UCMJ Article 128): Defending against serious accusations, we emphasize the right to contest charges in court, regardless of the situation’s gravity or the mistake made.
  4. Drug Crimes (UCMJ Article 112a): With marijuana legalization conflicting with military regulations, we challenge the justice system’s handling of drug-related cases, advocating for fair treatment.
  5. Military Specific Offenses (UCMJ Articles 77-134): Addressing charges from AWOL to conduct unbecoming, we fight for those who’ve erred, pushing against the military’s often unforgiving stance on mistakes.
