A Navy Petty Officer First Class at Pearl Harbor was caught in a sting operation resembling “To Catch a Predator,” accused of trying to commit a lewd act upon a child. Facing serious charges, the government proposed a plea deal with a three-year sentence. However, the Petty Officer, determined to contest the charges, refused the deal, and opted for a fully contested panel trial, represented by military defense attorney Tim Bilecki.
The defense strategy included arguments of entrapment and a mistake regarding the alleged victim’s age. Despite the vigorous defense, the panel found the Petty Officer guilty. The defense’s efforts continued through the sentencing phase, aiming to reduce the severity of the punishment.
