Senior Military Officials Speak Out Against the Marine Corps' Victims' Legal Counsel Program
Created less than two years ago, the Marine Corps' Victims' Legal Counsel program has already caused enough courtroom problems that senior military officials are starting to question its effectiveness. Concerning the ungoverned actions of the program’s attorneys, one official stated that, "I think judges are uncomfortable with a free radical bouncing around the courtroom without any rules and regulations. I think everybody is unsure of what they're supposed to do." Indeed, the lack of boundaries the victims’ legal counsel attorneys have been given only serves to muddle and confuse sexual assault cases within the military and will continue to do so until massive changes to the program are made.
