Actions of Marine Corps' Victims' Legal Counsel Attorneys Gets Farther and Farther Out of Hand
In a case where she was advising an alleged sexual assault victim, Maj. Chantell Higgins, a Marine special victims’ counsel, has been brought under investigation for instructing her client to delete information from her phone that could have served as valuable evidence in the case.
As if these actions weren’t enough on their own to shed a negative light on the Marine Corps' Victims' Legal Counsel program, are they representative of others within the program? We have seen these attorneys make ridiculous and unprecedented demands, and push for cases to go to trial against the recommendations of the prosecutor. With behavior such as this so prevalent, it is becoming increasingly hard for justice in military sexual assault cases to be found.
